Position Summary
The Lummi Island Health & Wellness Program Director serves as the programmatic and operational leader for LIH&W programs, providing program oversight and development, ensuring that LIH&W’s programs function together as a coordinated and effective health and wellness hub for the Lummi Island community. As a volunteer led and driven organization, it’s essential that we operate with a robust, engaged group of community volunteers involved in multiple functions of our health and wellness hub. The position is responsible for building and maintaining this volunteer base, focused on building effective programs and implementing board-directed plans. The Program Director, along with the board and staff, serves as a face of LIHW to the community.

The ideal candidate has experience in community health and volunteer programs, is highly organized, collaborative and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple operational systems while maintaining strong relationships with program leaders, instructors, volunteers and community participants
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Implementation & Operations
Ensure programs operate smoothly and consistently

Coordinate development and implementation of program priorities across LIH&W Action Plans, including work assignments and allocation of resources.

Organize volunteers, logistics and resources to build Telehealth Services and Health and Wellness Advocates into an integrated program providing health services access to islanders

Assist with daily oversight, operations and measured expansion of Health and Wellness classes and events
2. Volunteer Services
Build and operate a strong volunteer infrastructure that enables LIH&W programs to meet the needs of the community through creative use and engagement of island talent and resources

Develop a coordinated volunteer recruitment strategy across programs.

Identify volunteer roles and skill needs with workgroup leaders.

Ensure effective processes for volunteer assignments, scheduling and follow-through.

Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, online training process, and retention of volunteers across all roles:

Health and Wellness classes and events

3. Cross-Program Coordination
Support collaboration and alignment across LIH&W workgroups and initiatives

Problem-solve operational issues with staff/program leads and implement solutions
-
Ensure consistent operational practices.
4. Program Monitoring and Continuous Improvement
Monitor program performance and identify opportunities for growth and improvement

Ensure systems are set up to track metrics established in LIH&W action plans and grant agreements, in coordination with action plan leads and staff.

Oversee accountabilities for staff in supporting data collection and reports.

Recommend and implement operational improvements and related policies and procedures in coordination with work group leads and Board

Manage program level budgets as appropriate
5. Partnerships & Community Collaboration

Support day-to-day program partnerships including volunteers, caregivers, parish ministers, fire department and other Lummi Island organizations.

Coordinate with staff and board for representation at designated community events
Qualifications & Skills
Required
-
Bachelor’s degree in a management, health or wellness-related area of study with 5-7 years of related experience
-
Onsite 2-3 days a week
-
Effective experience organizing volunteers or volunteer-driven organizations
-
Strong organizational and project management skills
-
Experience in creating functional systems and operations in support of plans
-
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.

Comfort working in a rural, community-based environment
-
Commitment to take the Community Health Worker training
-
Proficiency in Microsoft office suite, social media platforms (i.e., Facebook, Instagram)
Preferred
-
Experience in nonprofit, public health, or community-based programs
-
Experience in developing and supporting volunteers in a non-profit setting
-
Experience with health care access systems and programs, including aging services
-
Lummi Island resident
Compensation
-
Half-time Independent Contractor (20 hrs./week)
-
$45/hour
-
Flexible work schedule: will include evenings and weekends at times for special events and community events, to be coordinated with Staff, Board members and volunteers
