2025 blossomed into a year of transformation, connection, and community engagement.

Like a young orchard taking root, Lummi Island Health & Wellness has moved beyond vision to action this year, nurturing health and wellness for every neighbor on Lummi Island.

Our Mission was founded to create resources that help islanders of all ages thrive. 2025 marked our transition from a simple idea to an essential part of community life. Since publicly launching classes last June, over 800 people have attended events and classes, while a 250-strong neighbor contact list testifies to a growing interest in health and wellness on Lummi Island. From Yoga (Wellness, Hatha, and Chair) and Tai Chi to monthly Forest Walks, CPR, Fire Extinguisher Training, and Song Circles, our calendar engaged a wide spectrum of participants.

  • Special Events: Strategic partnerships enabled life-saving CPR and Fire Extinguisher training, and with the Fire Department, the Flu Clinic vaccinated 183 residents. Collaborations with groups like the Lummi Island Heritage Trust, Island Library, and Island Library, Senior Services and Whatcom YMCA, Forest Therapy, Fall prevention and Memory testing supported wellness and aging in place for islanders.

  • Building Foundations: Our new website, active social media platforms, and monthly newsletter (reaching 200+) keep neighbors informed and engaged.

  • Focused Feedback: Post-event survey responses reflect a deep gratitude and an eagerness for even more opportunities.

  • Welcoming Spaces: Thanks to generous community partners, we hosted classes at The Gathering Place—a beautiful new facility run by the Congregational Church—and the Scenic Estates Clubhouse stepped up as a substitute space, creating beautiful and practical environments for connection and wellness

All of these achievements were possible thanks to local partnerships and the tireless dedication of our board, staff, and volunteers. With these solid roots established, we’re focused on...

Expanding resources and impact in 2026:

  • Growing Access: Maintaining open doors at the Resource Center and offering new intergenerational or after-hours classes for islanders who are working full-time. We also offer stipends for classes and footcare to make offerings accessible to all.

  • Increase Diverse Offerings: We hope to introduce intergenerational opportunities, art-focused classes, anddiverse dance, and strength classes so every islander finds their fit.

  • Storytelling & Outreach: Enhanced social and video platforms will reach more neighbors and open doors to new support.

  • Aging in Place: The new Health & Wellness Advocate Program along with the current HomeFit program will help residents navigate healthcare, and make home safety upgrades simpler and more accessible.

  • Partnership Power: We’ll deepen collaborations with the Lummi Island Fire Dept, Whatcom YMCA, Island Library, Senior Services, PeaceHealth, and more, partnering together to ensure that wellness is truly woven into island life.

  • Securing Support: We will obtain new grant funding and introduce local fundraising opportunities to help provide vital resources that strengthen and expand our current programming.

A Fruitful Future LIH&W is like a thriving orchard—planted by neighbors, for neighbors. The seeds of 2025 have taken root, and with continued public support and collaborative partnerships, we’ll keep growing branches of health, safety, and connection for every islander in 2026.

Thank you to our local partners, team, and especially the Lummi Island community. Together, we’re cultivating a healthier, more resilient future for all.
