"I'm grateful for my 86 trips around the sun. Being alive has given me the ability to observe and interpret the beauty of Mother Nature."

There is a quiet wisdom woven throughout Pamela Miller's work, a deep appreciation for the extraordinary details in the natural world, and a gratitude for the opportunity to keep creating.

For Pam, inspiration begins with the sea and her garden. The intricate beauty of plant and marine life, especially "Sea Dragon", the delicate form of a seahorse, sparked the creation of one of the pieces featured in Gratitude: Stories of the Heart. She chose the meticulous process of etching a metal plate and hand-printing the image, embracing the patience and precision the medium requires. "Etching a metal plate to make a print is very painstaking," she shares, "but the end results were worth the work. Printing each sheet to get the final result was very satisfying."

That sense of perseverance carries into her understanding of gratitude today. After experiencing a recent heart attack, Pamela's perspective has become even more grounded in the simple gift of each day. "Being alive and reasonably healthy so that I can pursue art in whatever form I wish," she says, is what gratitude means in this season of her life.

Living on Lummi Island has rekindled her creative spirit. The island's peaceful landscape and ever-changing beauty of the island provide a constant source of inspiration, reminding her to slow down and truly see. "The peacefulness and beauty of it have renewed my love of creating."

When visitors experience Pam's work, she hopes they will notice the wonder that exists all around us... the colors of the sky, the remarkable design of our natural surroundings, and the countless details that often go unnoticed.

Her gratitude extends beyond the canvas and into daily island life.

"I love the stillness and nature at its best. We can enjoy it all here. The sound of the wind in the trees, the birds singing, coyotes yelping in the night, tree frogs singing in the spring, fish jumping when the salmon schools arrive. All of it is a joy to behold."

At 86 years young, Pam Miller's art is a celebration of observation, resilience, and the enduring gift of curiosity.
